Women’s Basketball Tops Panthers for First Win

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Basketball team earned their first win of the season, defeating Pitt.-Bradford 79-63 at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center on Wednesday.

Junior Killian Mahoney (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Canandaigua Academy) led Keuka College (1-6) with a career-high 21 points, backed by five three-pointers. Amelia Poole (Bloomfield, N.Y. / Bloomfield) recorded her first double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Poole also added five assists as did Lauren Hill (Cobleskill, N.Y. / Cobleskill-Richmondville). Hill added 12 points and nine rebounds in the win.

Keuka College 79 vs. Pitt.-Bradford 63

The Wolves came out fast as Killian Mahoney knocked down a pair of threes in the first 51 seconds to stake the Wolves to the early lead. The nine seconds between Keuka winning the tip and Mahoney drilling the first three would be the only time the game was tied on Wednesday. Keuka stayed hot from deep as the Wolves hit six threes in the opening quarter and shot over 52% from the floor to give Keuka a 31-20 lead after the first quarter.

Pitt.-Bradford made their first shot in the second, but Keuka would go on a run. Killian Mahoney started it with a layup and Amelia Poole drained a pair of threes during the stretch as Keuka scored 14 unanswered to take a 45-23 lead over the Panthers. Pitt.-Bradford answered with seven straight of their own but the Wolves held a 51-35 advantage at the half.

The Panthers came out of the locker room strong as the second half began with a 17-5 run in favor of the visitors, cutting the Wolves lead down to 56-52 with 3:52 left in the quarter. Lauren Hill knocked down a three for the Wolves, followed by Poole, as the Wolves reestablished control. Keuka would take a seven-point lead, 62-55, into the final quarter.

Keuka College pulled away in the fourth. The Green and Gold outscored Pitt.-Bradford 17-8 in the frame. It was balanced scoring for the Wolves as seven different players scored in the fourth as Keuka College secured their first win of the season.

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves will conclude their fall semester at home on Saturday as Keuka College will host the University of Rochester at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center. Tipoff between the Wolves and Yellowjackets is set for 2pm.
