Keystone Charges Back for Conference-Opening Win

BALTIMORE, Md. – Keystone women's basketball opened Colonial States Athletic Conference play with a down-to-the-wire 65-63 road-win over Notre Dame University of Maryland Saturday afternoon.

Senior Abby Ritz (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunhannock Area) hit the game-winning putback and-1 layup with eight seconds remaining to complete an eight-point fourth-quarter comeback for the Giants.

Keystone improved to 2-1 on the season and 1-0 in CSAC play.

Notre Dame Maryland fell to 1-4 overall and 1-1 in conference.

Standout Performers
  • Bella Lamonea (Glendora, Calif./South Hills) led the Giants with 20 points, going 5 of 8 from the field and 9 for 10 at the free-throw line. The senior had key buckets down the stretch including a 3-pointer at the 6:37 mark to give Keystone a brief one-point lead.
  • Mac Oribello (San Diego, Calif./Westview) followed with a season-high of 19 points and three steals.
  • Abby Ritz (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunhannock Area) came off the bench and scored all six of her points in the final quarter, including the game-winning and-1 layup with eight seconds remaining. The senior battled in the paint for the offensive rebound, put up an empty shot, then grabbed her own board before hitting the go-ahead basket with a foul to add another point on the subsequent free throw. She also hit two free throws at the 5:09 mark to even the score at 56.
  • Junior Katie Price (Fredonia, N.Y./Fredonia) finished with double-digit rebounds (11) for the second time in her career.
  • Ayana Brim had a team-high 20 points for the Gators while Chantel Curry put in 15 points in 18 minutes off the bench.

  • Keystone went 17 of 21 (81.0 percent) at the charity stripe compared to Notre Dame MD's 5 of 14 (35.7 percent).
  • The Gators outscored the Giants, 38-26, in the paint but Keystone bested NDMU with a 15-8 points-off-turnovers advantage.
What's Next

Keystone will finish its season-opening road slate with a matchup against Rosemont College (0-2, 0-1 CSAC) Tuesday, Nov. 30 at 6 p.m.

Notre Dame of Maryland will host Bryn Athyn College (2-0, 1-0 CSAC) that same evening.

The Giants and Gators will meet again Jan. 20 at the Gambal Athletic Center.
