Bulldogs Beat Griffins in First Game at Messiah University Tip-Off Tournament

Grantham, Pa. - (11/19/2021) - Gwynedd Mercy University (2-3) began their stay at the Messiah University Tip-Off Tournament with a 100-63 loss to DeSales University. The Bulldogs controlled the contest from the opening tip, as they outscored the Griffins 24-7 in the first quarter and 25-15 in thew second en route to a 49-22 halftime lead. In the second half, the Griffins cut the deficit to 24 points, 51-27, on three-point basket from junior forward Cayla Sharkey (Lansdale, Pa.) with 9:08 remaining in the third quarter. But that is as close as Gwynedd Mercy University would get to DeSales University as a 44-27 rebound discrepancy ensured the Bulldogs victory.

Sophomore guard Lynzie Eggers (Turnersville, N.J.) led the Gwynedd Mercy University with 15 points, three rebounds, and a pair of steals. She was supported by 11 points, two rebounds, and six assists from sophomore guard Gabby Marinacci (Collegeville, Pa.). Junior forward Haley Crossley (Warminster, Pa.) chipped in with seven points, a team-high eight rebounds, an assist, a block, and two steals. Sharkey finished with nine points, seven rebounds, an assist, and four blocks.

Gwynedd Mercy University will face the loser of tonight's Saint Vincent College and Messiah University contest in the 1:00 p.m. Consolation Game.
