BOSTON -- The WPI women's basketball team continued its impressive start to the season with a 73-42 defeat of Regis on Saturday afternoon improving to 5-0 to start the season.  

The start its the team's best since the 2017-18 season where the Engineers also won five-straight games to begin the year.  

Nineteen different Engineers saw action on the day with 13 of them recording at least one point led by Emily Raynowska's (Brentwood, NH) 13-point, seven-rebound, five-assist effort off the bench. Raynowska was 6-of-11 from the field, netting those 13 points in 15 minutes of action.  

Melanie Presseau (Manchester, NH) added 12 points and five steals, Kara ONeil (Holden, MA) added 10 points and four rebounds and Lisa Cristiano (Valhalla, NY) added another double-digit, 10-point effort in the victory.  

Pam Gonzalez (Revere, MA) led the way for Regis tallying 18 of the team's 42 points while also pulling down 13 rebounds.  

WPI dominated underneath, out-rebounding the Pride 43-23 in the outing while also outscoring Regis 54-28 in the paint.  

Regis was the first team to get on the board with a Gonzalez layup at the 7:27 mark of the first quarter, but the Engineers evened things up on the next possession, thanks to a Cristiano jumper, and never looked back. A 12-2 run, thanks to a pair of threes from Presseau and Alice Kelly (Wethersfield, CT), made it a 12-4 ball game mid-way through the first quarter, though Regis fought back to make it a 18-13 game after the first 10 minutes of action.  

The Engineers held Regis to just eight points in the second stanza and headed into halftime with a 32-21 lead.  

After some back and forth play to begin the second half, the Engineers used a 16-4 run over the final five minutes of the third quarter to boost their lead to 25 with 10 minutes left to play.  

Adrianna Niles (Tewksbury, MA), Victoria Mirecki (Washingtonville, NY), Cristiano, Kelly, Shannon Reno (Millbury, MA), Eileen Piombino (West Chester, PA), Luese Ufuah (Franklin, NJ), and Samantha Curtis (Ellington, CT) combined for the Engineers' offensive effort in the fourth quarter as the Curtis layup with 31 seconds left but a bow on the 73-42 victory for WPI.  

WPI will look to make it six-straight in its next outing at home against Nichols College on Tuesday night at 7pm. The Pride will be back in action at home against Eastern Nazarene, also on Tuesday, but at 6pm.
