Wolves’ Season Ends in Semis

PITTSFORD, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Basketball team lost in the Empire 8 Tournament Semi-Finals on Tuesday to top-ranked Nazareth College 67-31.

Keuka College finished its 2021 season with an 0-7 record. Meaghan McGwin (Rochester, N.Y. / Hilton) led Keuka College with 10 points. Sara Gardner (Odessa, N.Y. / Odessa-Montour) set a new career-high with six points and Killian Mahoney (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Canandaigua Academy) tied her career mark, grabbing six rebounds.

#1 Nazareth College 67 vs. #4 Keuka College 31 – Empire 8 Semi-Finals

The Wolves opened the game with tough defense against the Golden Flyers. Keuka had three steals in the opening minutes before Nazareth could get a shot off. A three-pointer by Killian Mahoney gave the Wolves a 6-0 lead. Later, Amelia Poole (Bloomfield, N.Y. / Bloomfield) knocked down a three to make it 9-2. But that would be the last points of the quarter for Keuka College. Nazareth outscored the Wolves 20-0 over the final 5:28 to lead 22-9 after one.

The Golden Flyers remained in control in the second quarter. The hosts limited the Wolves to just four points in the frame. Nazareth College led 41-13 at the half.

The Wolves were held to just six points in the third quarter as well with McGwin and Poole getting buckets and Kara Reese (Odessa, N.Y. / Odessa-Montour) hitting a pair of free throws. Nazareth College shot 47% from the floor, scoring 19 points, and led 60-19 going into the fourth quarter.

The final quarter was the best of the night for the Wolves as Keuka outscored Nazareth 12-7 in the frame. The game was in hand, however, as Nazareth College advanced to the Empire 8 Championship Game, defeating Keuka College 67-31.

  • The Wolves fall to 10-20 all-time against Nazareth College
  • Keuka College has made the conference tournament in 17 of the last 20 seasons, including four of the last five years. Tuesday was the first time Keuka College has played in the Empire 8 Tournament
  • The Wolves finish the season with a 74.1% free-throw percentage, setting a new school record. They bested the old top mark of 70.0% set by the 1996-97 and 1997-98 teams
  • Despite the shortened season, Amelia Poole set a new career-high for points in a season
