Cardinals Fly Past Wolves on the Hardwood

PITTSFORD, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Basketball team lost on Sunday 95-36 to St. John Fisher College in an Empire 8 matchup.

Keuka College (0-2, 0-2 E8) was led by Killian Mahoney (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Canandaigua Academy) with a career-best 12 points, knocking down four three-pointers. Amelia Poole (Bloomfield, N.Y. / Bloomfield) set a new career-high with seven assists in the loss.

St. John Fisher College 95 vs. Keuka College 36

Killian Mahoney hit an early three for the Wolves to give them a 3-2 lead. St. John Fisher answered with a three to regain the lead. Keuka later tied it at 6-6 on a three by Sydney Bloom (Penn Yan, N.Y. / Penn Yan Academy), but the Cardinals would control the second half of the quarter. Following the media timeout, St. John Fisher went on a 9-0 run. Amelia Poole snapped that with a step-back three, but the Cardinals scored the final seven points in the quarter and led 22-9 after the first.

The Cardinals would widen their margin in the second. Sydney Bloom knocked down a deep three to make it 24-14, but that would be as close as the Wolves would get it in the frame. Killian Mahoney hit another three with 1.7 seconds left in the half, but St. John Fisher led 40-18 at the break.

St. John Fisher went on another run to open the second half. They scored 15 of the first 18 points, with the lone Keuka bucket coming on a three by Sydney Brown (Lowville, N.Y. / Lowville Academy). The Cardinals continued to press and led 69-28 after three quarters.

The hosts would close it out, outscoring Keuka College 26-8 in the fourth quarter on their way to the 95-36 victory.

  • Keuka College falls to 2-32 all-time against St. John Fisher. The two teams first met in the 1975-76 season and Keuka's last victory came during the 1990-91 season.
  • Sunday was the most points allowed by the Wolves since Keuka College defeated SUNY Poly 102-98 in January 2013. It was the most points and largest margin ever in the series with St. John Fisher
  • 27 of Keuka's 36 points came from beyond the arc as the Wolves went 9-40 from deep. The 40 attempts sets a new program record
  • The four threes made by Killian Mahoney marks a new career-high

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves will play their first home game of the year on Wednesday as Keuka College hosts Alfred University. The Wolves and Saxons will meet for the 37th time, but first as members of the Empire 8 Conference. The Saxons defeated Keuka College in Alfred last season.
