Nor'easters cruise to 69-38 win over NEC

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England women's basketball team utilized a 26-8 2nd quarter to distance itself from New England College on the way to a 69-38 triumph on Friday evening (Mar. 5) at the Harold Alfond Forum.

The trio of Jordyn FranzenAllie Goodman, and Juliana Tracey accounted for 52 points to power the Nor'easters (2-1). Franzen had a game-high 18 points with five rebounds, Goodman went for 17 points, eight boards, and five assists, and Tracey netted 17 to go along with five caroms and three steals. Kaylee Beyor added eight points, and Maggie Schwab contributed six rebounds to help the hosts secure a 46-26 advantage on the glass.

UNE overcame 23 turnovers by shooting 45 percent (21-for-47) from the field and 67 percent (8 of 12) behind the arc. Franzen was a blazing 5-for-5 from three-point land, the fourth time in the last 32 years of the program (first in 10 seasons) that a player made at least five treys without missing. The Nor'easters out-scored the Pilgrims by 21 from deep and by 10 (19-9) at the free throw line.

For New England College (1-4), Ericka Pratt and Asia Jones tallied 14 and 13 points, respectively. Megan Lowrey grabbed seven boards for the visitors, who hit just 23 percent (14-for-60) of their field goal tries.

UNE charged out of the gate with the first eight points and never looked back. Franzen, who had 14 of her points during the initial 20 minutes, canned a triple with 2:19 left in the 2nd frame to establish the Nor'easters with a 38-13 cushion. The home squad made 13 of 22 (59%) live-action shots prior to halftime.
