Women’s Basketball: Titans Fall on the Road at Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa. - The Westminster College women's basketball team lost, 89-55, against reigning Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Champion Grove City College on the road Saturday afternoon.
 
Westminster (3-2) fell behind Grove City (4-0) 8-1 early in the first quarter. The Titans responded with an 8-5 run, capped off by a layup by senior Ashley Russell (Belle Vernon, PA / Belle Vernon), to cut the Wolverines' lead to 11-7 with 3:13 left in the first frame. Grove City led, 20-11, after one quarter and utilized a 25-8 second quarter to take a commanding 45-19 halftime lead.
 
The Titans were led in the scoring department by sophomore Natalie Murrio (Pittsburgh, PA / Brentwood), who tied a game-high with 14 points and added four rebounds and dished out a career-high four assists. Sophomore Lindsay Bell (Youngstown, OH / Ursuline) totaled a career-high nine points and grabbed eight rebounds. Bell also tied a career-high with a pair of blocks. Junior Megan Meyer (New Galilee, PA / Mohawk) finished with six points and grabbed five boards, while Russell and first-years Elizabeth Trump (Fredericktown, PA / Bethlehem-Center) and Alyssa Pollice (Pittsburgh, PA / Bishop Canevin) each tallied five points (career-highs for both Pollice and Trump). First-year Katie Fitzpatrick (Cumberland Center, ME / Greely) tallied four points and seven rebounds, while classmate Mariah Vincent (Franklin Pike, PA / Kennedy Catholic) connected on a three-pointer.
 
For the game, Grove City out-shot the Titans 45.6% (36-79) to 34.5% (19-55). Westminster narrowly edged the Wolverines on the glass (43-42), but Grove City collected more assists (24-11). Grove City took advantage of Westminster's miscues, scoring 40 points off turnovers.
 
Westminster is next scheduled to play at home against the Geneva College Golden Tornadoes on Wednesday, Feb. 24 at 6:30 p.m.
