ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Using a big second quarter to get into overdrive, the Salisbury University women's basketball team powered past the St. Mary's (Md.) Seahawks 75-43 on Monday to improve to 4-0 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Emily Dilger opened the scoring with a jumper 42 seconds in, but the Seahawks answered with five in a row to take an early 5-2 lead at the 7:12 mark of the first quarter. The Sea Gulls responded with a 6-0 run over the next two minutes, capped by a pair of Kaylee Otlowski free throws to make it 8-5 SU.
• The teams battled it out for the rest of the first, with St. Mary's keeping pace after several Salisbury pushes. A Caitlin Mays jumper in the final seven seconds cut the Salisbury advantage to 18-15 after the opening quarter.
• From there the Sea Gulls turned on the afterburners and jetted to a 41-22 halftime lead with a 23-7 second quarter. SU opened the clinic with an 8-0 run over the first three minutes, topped off with a layup from Amber Onyekwere that forced the Seahawks to take a timeout at the 7:17 mark.
• The Seahawks adjusted and stayed within an arm's length for the next three minutes, but the Sea Gulls left their hosts in the dust with an 11-1 run to close the half. Ashlynn Burrows knocked down a three-pointer with 3:55 to go, then Jada Welbon and Lauren Fortescue each found a seam for a layup. Otlowski scored the final five points of the half, finishing it off with a free throw to boost the halftime cushion to 19.
• Salisbury came out just as strong in the third quarter. Fortescue pushed the Sea Gull lead past 20 points for good with a layup at the 6:47 mark, making it 47-26. That sparked a 12-1 run, finished off with a Welbon jumper with 2:28 to go to get the lead up to 57-27. Onyekwere's jumper with six ticks assured SU of a 30-point lead after the third, 63-33.
• For the fourth straight game the Sea Gulls were able to give their bench ample playing time in the fourth quarter. Courtney Brigham scored the first four Salisbury points in the period, while Burrows, Kolby Brown, Sym Deloatch and Leah Johnson also got on the board. Johnson's trey with 43 seconds remaining got SU over the 75-point threshold again.

SALISBURY GAME NOTES

• Kaylee Otlowski tallied her third double-double of the season and 19th of her career. She led all scorers with 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting along with 14 rebounds. She also contributed three assists, three steals and two blocks.
• Emily Dilger chipped in a season-high 11 points (5-of-8) with six rebounds while Amber Onyekwere and Jada Welbon each notched 10 points to make it four Sea Gulls in double figures.
• The Sea Gulls again turned up the heat on defense, forcing 30 turnovers and winning the margin by 15; SU has induced 68 giveaways in their last two games. Onyekwere managed five of the team's 18 steals.
• Salisbury shot 44.9 percent (31-of-69) for the game, including 53.8 percent (21-of-39) in the second and third quarters. The Sea Gulls have scored 75 points or more in all four of their games, averaging 76.8 points per contest and winning by an average of 34.3 points.
• SU outrebounded St. Mary's by a 46-32 margin and controlled the points in the paint 46-16.

ST. MARY'S GAME NOTES

• Karon Williams led the Seahawks with 12 points (3-of-7) and three rebounds.
• Amira Whitaker added eight points off the bench, while Cassidy Kupchinskas chipped in seven.
• The Seahawks shot just 28.6 percent (14-of-49) from the floor.
