The Millikin women's basketball team won at Elmhurst College 82-62 on February 15 in Elmhurst, Illinois.
The victory improves Millikin to 15-8 over and 8-6 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin standings. The Big Blue are currently in fourth place in the standings and the victory takes the Big Blue another step closer to securing no lower than fourth place and a chance to host a first round game in the upcoming CCIW Tournament. The victory over Elmhurst assures the Big Blue a spot in the six team post season tournament.
Millikin got its offense clicking in high gear against Elmhurst. The Big Blue led 19-13 after one quarter and outscored the Bluejays 27-17 in the second quarter to build a 46-30 halftime advantage. Millikin shot 73 percent (11-15) from the field and 4-5 (80 percent) from three-point range in the third quarter to push the lead out to 30 points at 72-42 with 1:26 left in the third period. The Big Blue were up 72-45 heading into the fourth quarter.
On the game, Millikin shot 31-57 (54 percent) from the field and went 9-18 (50 percent) from beyond the arc. Millikin limited Elmhurst to 40 percent (25-58) shooting from the field and out rebounded the Bluejays 41-24.
Freshman Bailey Coffman led Millikin with a career high 23 points. Coffman was 7-10 from the field including going 3-3 from three-point range. She went 6-7 from the free throw line. Coffman added 10 rebounds and five assists. Jordan Hildebrand had 15 points for the Big Blue with three rebounds and three assists. Jazmin Brown scored nine points for Millikin followed by Aubrey Staton and Abby Ratsch with eight each.
Sophia Lathe led Elmhurst with 15 points followed by Becca Gerke with 13.
Millikin will host first place North Park on Wednesday, February 19 at 7 p.m.
