Rochester, N.Y., Feb. 7, 2020 – The Washington University in St. Louis women's basketball team had its two-game conference winning streak snapped with an 88-64 loss at the University of Rochester Friday in Rochester, N.Y.

WashU shot 33.8 percent (23-68) from the field and committed 23 turnovers.

Rochester snapped a three-game losing skid and improved to 8-11 and 2-6 in the University Athletic Association (UAA), while WashU dropped to 10-9 and 3-5 in the league.

Sophomore Samantha Weaver had 17 points and six rebounds off the bench, while freshman Maya Arnott recorded the first double-double of her career with 12 points and a career-high 15 boards. Senior Kristina Schmelter radded 12 points and 10 rebounds for her seventh double-double of the season.

Rochester ended the first quarter on an 8-0 run to take a 20-12 advantage after 10 minutes of play. The Bears shot 4-of-19 from the field and hit just 1-of-6 from three.

The lead grew to double figures for Rochester (23-11) on a three to open the second quarter, Freshman Sammi Matoush's three trimmed the lead to nine (26-19), but the Yellowjackets pushed the lead back to 10 (42-32) at half.

Schmelter led the Bears with 10 points in the first half, while Arnott had five points and 10 boards. WashU shot 30.6 percent (11-36) from the field and had 11 turnovers.

Rochester outscored WashU 18-11 in the third to extend its lead to 60-45. The Bears shot the ball well from the field in the third (6-14, 42.9%), but had 10 turnovers.

Matoush's three to open the fourth cut the lead to 12 (60-48), but that would be as close as WashU would get.

Julianna Okoniewski led Rochester with 18 points, while Hannah Lindemuth (17) and Alexi Sestric (16) also scored in double figures for the Yellowjackets, who had a 29-2 advantage in points off turnovers. 

WashU closes out the two-game road trip atEmory on Sunday at 2 p.m. (ET).
