Pfeiffer Women's Basketball Falls at Averett, 82-50
Danville, Va. (Feb. 3, 2020) – The Pfeiffer University women's basketball team struggled from the field and suffered 28 turnovers in an 82-50 USA South loss on Sunday at Averett University.
Averett (14-7, 8-4 USA South) got off to a slow start on Sunday, but capitalized on several late first quarter opportunities to take a 15-12 lead.
Pfeiffer (8-13, 5-8 USA South) fell victim to a strong second quarter defensive effort from the Cougars as Averett limited the Falcons to just six second quarter points to take a 31-18 lead into the break.
A'Mya McClain (Hickory, N.C.) and Kortni Pinion (Stanfield, N.C.) both scored 13 points to lead the Falcons. Pinion also led the way by pulling down seven rebounds while McClain managed three rebounds and three steals in the loss.
As a team, Pfeiffer shot just 18-of-53 (34.0%) from the field and 3-of-12 from long range while Averett shot 44.6% (33-of-74) from the floor and 35.3% (6-of-17) from the beyond the arc.
Pfeiffer will return to play on Saturday, Feb. 8 with a 2:00 p.m. home game against Methodist. The game is part of a doubleheader with the Falcon men's team. Pfeiffer athletics will be hosting the annual Alumni Day as part of the doubleheader.
