Leventhal's Career-High in Rebounding Not Enough for Yeshiva Against Merchant Marine

KINGS POINT, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University women's basketball team dropped its Skyline Conference contest to the United States Merchant Marine Academy, 66-43, at Liebertz Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon. The Maccabees drop to 4-10 overall, and 2-8 in the Skyline, while the Mariners advance to 13-3 overall for the season and 10-2 in league games.

The Macs fell behind, 5-0, but freshman guard Yuval Nitzan drained a three-point field goal, and then converted a layup, to tie the game. The Mariners responded with 12-2 run to take the lead for good. Yeshiva could not generate a run to get back into the game, as USMMA pulled away for the victory.

For the game, Nitzan had a team-high 13 points and grabbed six rebounds. Sophomore forward Mahlia Leventhal paced YU with nine points and a career-high 18 rebounds. First-year forward Jennie Mellman added seven points with three boards.

Merchant Marine was led by senior guard Kaleigh D'Aryc, who netted 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

Yeshiva will continue Skyline play on Tuesday, with a matchup against Sarah Lawrence College, at the Campbell Sports Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
