Baruch Gets Past York, Snyder Jumper with 5.9 Seconds Left Seals Win

The Baruch College Bearcats won a hard-fought CUNYAC contest against the Cardinals of York College, 59-56, on Saturday afternoon in the ARC Arena.

The Bearcats trailed throughout parts of the contest and found themselves down 56-55 after a layup by Mac-Dege Dessources with 18 seconds left that forced a timeout.

The Bearcats came out of that timeout and set up a long play that ended with Frances Snyder scoring on a floater with 5.9 seconds left.

York quickly called a timeout and on their immediate inbounds play, Melinda Spahiu fouled to waste a second. York inbounded again, but could not make the pass within the five seconds and that forced a turnover to dramatically give the Bearcats the possession.

Nia Dawson was next fouled on the Bearcats' inbound play and she connected on both free throw attempts to snatch the victory from the jaws of defeat.

Dawson finished with 24 points and 11 rebounds to record her third straight double-double.

Sameera Ahmed had 12 points and Spahiu finished with 10 as the Bearcats are now 5-0 in the 2020 year.

Synder finished with eight points and Daniela Zirpolo grabbed eight rebounds in the team's seventh straight home win dating back to last season.

Dessources led the visiting Cardinals with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
