The Oglethorpe women's basketball team won their 12th game in a row and improved to 14-1 on the season Friday night in Tennessee, besting the homestanding Sewanee Tigers 73-58 at Juhan Gymnasium. The victory extended Oglethorpe's best start to a season since 2008-09 and kept the team undefeated in SAA play at 4-0.

The Stormy Petrels jumped out to a huge lead right away, outscoring Sewanee 21-4 in the first quarter. It was a period in which the Petrels hit 50 percent of their shots while holding the Tigers to just 1-for-14 overall and 0-for-5 from 3-point range. The home side played somewhat better in the second quarter, shooting at a 25.8 percent clip, but the Petrels continued to roll along, making 53.8 percent of their shots and 3 of 5 from long distance. They outscored Sewanee 24-12 over the quarter overall and led by a commanding 45-16 at the halftime break.

The Petrels continued to pour it on early in the third quarter, scoring the first 5 points of the period to take a 50-16 lead at the 7:30 mark. The 34-point advantage proved to be their largest of the game. The Tigers outscored Oglethorpe 17-11 over the remainder of the third quarter and 25-12 in the fourth, but they never got closer than 16 points.

Junior center Savannah LeGate recorded her eighth double-double of the season, scoring 20 points while grabbing 14 rebounds. She went 7-for-12 from the field.

Freshman guard Amy Vazquez enjoyed the best game of her young career, scoring 22 points on 8-of-11 from the field and 6-of-9 from 3-point range while grabbing 10 boards and passing out three assists. Junior center Sydni Donovan added eight rebounds and a pair of blocks.

The Petrels shot 44.8 percent from the field and went 7-for-16 from beyond the arc. They held Sewanee to 32.8 percent and 6-for-24, respectively. The Petrels outrebounded their opponent 53-29 while besting them 21-5 in second-chance points. The Petrels held an 18-9 advantage on the offensive glass.

Oglethorpe returns to action Sunday afternoon when they travel to Danville, Kentucky. They'll take on Centre at 1 p.m.
