Hartford, Conn. – Senior forward Maddie Hasson (South Portland, Maine) had 20 points and six rebounds to lead the visiting Bowdoin College Polar Bears to a 77-54 victory over the Trinity College Bantams in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) opener for both teams this evening Oosting Gymnasium.  Trinity falls to 9-4 with its third setback in a row, while No. 2-ranked Bowdoin is now 13-0.  Rookie guard Bria Fuller (Springdale, Md.) paced the Bantams with 13 points.  Trinity hosts NESCAC rival Colby tomorrow at 3 p.m. and the Polar Bears visit league foe Connecticut College tomorrow at the same time.

Bowdoin never trailed, taking a 6-0 lead in the first three minutes and led, 16-6, with 3:50 on the clock.  Trinity senior tri-captain center Emily Peters (North Attleboro, Mass.) made a layup late and sophomore guard Bailey Hyland (Broad Brook, Conn.) added two free throws in the final minute to cut the home team's deficit to 19-144 after one quarter. Late in the second frame, freshman guard Ali Meade (Canton, Mass.) gave Bowdoin a 37-24 lead with a drive, but the Bantams pulled within single digits at 37-28 on back-to-back jumpers by sophomore forward Katie Kirsch (Pelham, N.H.) and senior tri-captain Peace Kabari (Manchester, N.H.) right before halftime.  Polar Bear sophomore guard Sela Kay (Los Angeles, Calif.) sealed the Bantams' fate with three consecutive treys in the first 1:45 of the third quarter.  Bowdoin led, 57-38, at the final break and by at least 17 throughout the fourth quarter.

Fuller added six rebounds and three assists to her team-high 13 points, while Kabari had 10 points, six rebounds, three assists, two steals, and a block, and Kirsch finished with 10 points and three assists.  Trinity made just one three-pointer in nine attempts and 60 percent of its free throws (9-15).  Bowdoin freshman guard Megan Tan (Belmont, Mass.) scored 16 points, while Kay had 13 points, and senior guard Samantha Roy (Stafford Springs, Conn.) added 10 points and seven assists.  The Polar Bears shot 49.1 percent from the floor (28-57), 40 percent from lone range (8-20), and 86.7 percent from the charity stripe (13-15).
