Baruch Holds Off Ramapo to Finish 2019 on Winning Note

The women's basketball team held off a late push by Ramapo to record a 60-56 home win on Monday afternoon in the ARC Arena.

The win improves the Bearcats to 6-2. They will next begin the busy portion of their CUNYAC schedule starting on Saturday 12:00 p.m. at CCNY.

The Bearcats led throughout a majority of the non-conference contest this afternoon but found themselves battling against several runs by Ramapo to take over the game.

Daniela Zirpolo connected on a key jumper with 1:14 left to give the Bearcats a three-point lead (57-54).

Neither team scored on their next possession, but a solid box-out on a rebound by Melinda Spahiu drew a foul and killed valuable time inside the one minute mark.

Frances Synder connected on 1-of-2 free throws for a 58-54 score with 23 seconds left.

Ramapo would get fouled on their next trip down the court and Jenna Harsh hit both free throws to cut the score to 58-56 with 16 seconds remaining.

Ramapo then fouled Zirpolo with seven seconds left and she responded by hitting both free throws to seal the score at 60-56 for the home win.

Nia Dawson narrowly missed a double-double with 21 points and nine rebounds. Ahmed Sameera scored 16 points, including 10 in the busy first half.

Zirpolo scored all nine of her points in the second half and also narrowly missed a double-double with 11 rebounds.

Frances Synder was the engine on defense with seven steals.

Alie Wickersheim was tops for the visitors from Mahwah, New Jersey with 15 points and nine rebounds.
