Chaput's career-high powers UNE win over MSOE, 63-52, at D3hoops.com Classic

LAS VEGAS -- Jocelyn Chaput had a personal-best 26 points to go with game highs of 11 rebounds and five assists as the University of New England women's basketball team defeated Milwaukee School of Engineering, 63-52, in the opening game of the 10th Annual D3hoops.com Classic at South Point Arena.

The Nor'easters led for more than 37 minutes on the way to their third straight win. UNE will carry its 8-2 ledger into Sunday's (7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT) clash with No.9 George Fox University.

Chaput connected on 9-of-14 shots from the field and 6-for-8 at the line to pace the victory. Kaylee Beyor made 4-of-5 attempts for eight points, and Abby Cavallaro tossed in seven more. Sadie Nelsoncontributed six rebounds to the 35-31 advantage on the glass, and Madalyn Sanborn picked up four of the team's 13 steals.

UNE raced out to a 12-4 cushion, but nine unanswered put the Raiders ahead. That lead lasted all of 13 seconds, and the Nor'easters had the edge for good at 16-14. The margin shifted between two and nine in the 2nd quarter, and the spread reached 10 early in the 3rd.

MSOE closed to within three (41-38, 48-45) near the turn towards the final frame, but Chaput recorded seven points down the stretch to help extend the gap back in the direction of double digits.

Mikayla Dogs topped the Raiders (4-5) with 19 points and seven boards. Britta Grayvold and Wendy Guan chipped in with seven points, and Amy Reiser collected 10 rebounds. The Nor'easters held MSOE to just 30 percent field-goal accuracy (15-for-50) in the contest.
