Nor'easters dominate Seahawks, 78-39

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England women's basketball squad scored the first 12 points and raced out to a 31-5 cushion with the initial basket of the 2nd quarter, on the way to a 78-39 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) win over Salve Regina University on Saturday afternoon (Dec. 7) at the Harold Alfond Forum.

Sadie Nelson had another solid outing for the Nor'easters (7-2, 3-0 CCC), going 5-of-6 from the floor to end with 14 points and six rebounds in only 20 minutes of work. Ashley Coneys notched 10 points and Katrina Krenzer chipped in with nine, while Abby Cavallaro added eight points and five steals. Jocelyn Chaput had five assists to support UNE's 51.7 percent field goal accuracy, which included an 11-of-18 performance from downtown.

The opening stretch featured scoring by eight different Nor'easters, as the hosts hit 13 of their first 17 shots. Meanwhile, the Seahawks (0-8, 0-2 CCC) converted just 1-of-15 attempts and committed four turnovers in the same span.

Torie Scorpio registered 14 points to guide Salve Regina. Megan Henaghan corralled seven rebounds for the visitors, who finished the day shooting 26.8 percent during live action.

UNE will head out to Las Vegas just before the new year to take part in the D3hoops.com Classic. The Nor'easters will have two games out west -- a December 27 date with Milwaukee School of Engineering, followed by a December 29 battle against No.11 George Fox University.
