GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Miracle Walters recorded 16 points and 12 rebounds, both game-highs, as Guilford College defeated Pfeiffer University, 67-39, on Tuesday night.
The Quakers ranked 25th in the current D3hoops.com poll, moved to 4-0 on the season. The visiting Falcons dropped to 2-5 after the non-conference setback.
A senior, Walters was 7-of-13 shooting and made both of her free throws. Freshman Kristen Roberts added 15 points for the home team. She made three three-pointers in the game. Ten different Quakers scored in the contest.
Pfeiffer got off to a hot start and led 18-11 after the first quarter. The Falcons shot 54 percent (7-13) in the opening 10 minutes. Guilford, however, outscored Pfeiffer, 23-4, in the second period. The Quakers closed the half on a 17-0 run and held a 34-22 edge at the break.
The Quakers pushed its scoring run to 24 as they scored the first seven points of the third quarter. A'Mya McClain's basket with 6:53 left in the period stopped the run. McClain scored 13 points on 5-of-11 shooting for Pfeiffer. Teammate Kortni Pinion added nine points and eight boards.
Guilford shot 38 percent (24-64) from the floor while Pfeiffer made just 14-of-57 field goals (35%). The Quakers led in three-point baskets (8-3), rebounds (54-32), and second-chance points (16-6). The Falcons committed 15 turnovers but also forced 21 Guilford miscues.
Guilford returns to Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action on Sunday afternoon (12/1) when Hollins University visits Ragan-Brown Field House. Tipoff is at 2 p.m.
