Nor'easters hang on for 56-54 win at Saint Joseph's

STANDISH, Maine -- The University of New England used a 10-0 run in the 3rd quarter to gain the lead, and fought off Saint Joseph's College of Maine in the 4th to secure a 56-54 women's basketball victory on Wednesday evening (Nov. 20) at the Harold Alfond Center.

After the Monks flipped a 27-24 halftime deficit into a 37-31 cushion, Jocelyn Chaput scored six of UNE's next 10 to put her side back in front. Elyssa Nicholas canned three from long range in final frame as the visitors established a 52-45 margin with 2:36 to go, and Nor'easters made 4-of-6 free throws in the waning seconds to cling to the advantage.

Chaput had a game-high 16 points for UNE (4-1), and Nicholas totaled 12. Abby Cavallaro and Sadie Nelson both tallied nine points; Nelson also collected a match-best eight rebounds.

For St. Joe's (1-2), Cassandra Staplefeld went for 14 points and Alyson Fillion supported with 10. Lexi L'Heureux-Carland added nine points and seven boards.
