Berea Pulls Away from Sewanee Women’s Basketball

BEREA, Ky. - The Sewanee women's basketball team suffered a 65-58 setback to the Mountaineers of Berea College on Tuesday night from the Seabury Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-For the second straight game for Sewanee, the contest got out to a slow start, with the first point coming off a free throw by Berea with 4:45 left in the first quarter.

-Thanks to a Camryn Broussard jumper in the final minute of the quarter, the Tigers trailed 8-5 after 10 minutes of play.

-The second quarter woke the Tigers up offensively, as they outscored the Mountaineers, 19-15, thanks to an 8-of-17 (47.1%) mark from the field and out-rebounding the hosts, 12-7. Sewanee had a lead, 24-23, going into the locker room.

-The second half saw both teams trade the lead back-and-forth. With 5:45 left in the contest, Nakeisha Greene drained a 3-pointer to give the Mountaineers the lead, 47-44. On the Tigers' next trip, Broussard knocked down a triple of her own to even the game back up.

-From there, Berea pulled away to secure the victory. After a missed layup and an offensive rebound that led to a layup and an 8-1 run in a two-minute span.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Kinsley Logan recorded 20 points for her second 20-point performance of her career, missing her career mark by one point, set last season. The sophomore drained eight field goals, four from downtown.

-Abby Young scored 11 points in 17 minutes off the bench.

-Ellie Treanton and Allison Hitchcock each grabbed eight rebounds.

BEREA KEY STATISTICS
-Aaliyah Hampton scored 14 of her 28 points from the free-throw line, as she finished 14-of-19 from the charity stripe, and she added seven rebounds.

-Nakeisha Greene posted 16 rebounds.

UP NEXT
The Tigers will open the home schedule on Friday with the Sewanee Hoops Classic. Sewanee will host Belhaven at 6 p.m. from Juhan Gymnasium.
