SALEM, Va. – Senior Emma Dorshimer (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown) was selected as one of just 10 female finalists for one of the most coveted individual prizes in Division III basketball, the Jostens Trophy, according to an announcement by the Rotary Club of Salem (Va.) Friday afternoon.

The Jostens Trophy is awarded to the outstanding NCAA Division III men's and women's basketball players who excel on the court, in the classroom, and in the community.  This season marks the 22nd presentation of the awards, with the inaugural trophies bestowed in 1998.

Several Bullets have been nominated over the last two decades, but Dorshimer is the first to crack the final edition of the ballot. The senior guard has produced an incredible collegiate career at Gettysburg, both on and off the court.

"We are so excited for Emma to be a finalist for the Jostens Trophy," said Head Coach Nate Davis, who will lead Gettysburg into the NCAA Division III playoffs for the second consecutive season on Friday night. "It's an amazing honor to be a finalist for this prestigious award that recognizes the well-rounded student athlete."

On the court, Dorshimer has solidified her status as one of the top players in program history. She has been named All-Centennial Conference First Team three times and was awarded CC Player of the Year accolades this season. Dorshimer is averaging a career-best 16.9 points per game this year to go along with 5.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game.

A D3hoops.com All-Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team pick in 2017-18, Dorshimer is the program's career leader in three-pointers made (225) and three-point field goal percentage (.403). She also ranks second all-time in points (1,669), free throws made (332), and free throw percentage (.836) and third in career scoring average (15.7 ppg). Dorshimer has led Gettysburg to three consecutive 20-win seasons, two trips to the NCAA tournament, and the 2018 Centennial Conference title.

An anthropology major, Dorshimer has been named to the Dean's List four times and the Dean's Commendation List three times. She received the Harry & Catherine Hartzell Award in Anthropology in the fall of 2018 and serves as a peer learning associate in education. She works in the athletics department in both the Office of Athletic Communications and Equipment Room and works at the College Union Building (CUB) desk through the Office of Student Activities and Greek Life. She served as Alpha Delta Pi's New Member Coordinator, Bid Day Chair, and Scholarship Chair and has helped the sorority achieve the highest GPA of all Greek organizations on campus. Recently, she was named Academic All-District First Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Dorshimer has been heavily involved in impacting the community through various organizations. She walked in the Adams County Heart Walk in each of her four years and volunteers at Ronald McDonald House Charities through Alpha Delta Pi. As the President of the Peace and Justice Studies Student Council, she planned or co-sponsored events related to walkouts to protest gun violence, initiatives to promote voter registration and efforts to vote by Gettysburg students, and workshops for nonviolence and bias in the workplace. Dorshimer also participated in the Relay for Life through the campus organization Colleges Against Cancer.

"Emma's passion, commitment, and work ethic to achieve excellence in everything she does certainly makes her a worthy candidate for this award," noted Davis. "We celebrate with Emma the great honor of being a finalist for the Jostens Trophy."

The Rotary Club of Salem is responsible for the initial review of nominations and narrowed the collection of candidates over the past two weeks. The Club's Jostens Trophy Committee employs a numerical rating system in determining the lists of finalists. The system ensures an objective process thru the first round of vetting. The 20 finalists continue thru the review process, with a national selection committee of 30 or more individuals charged with determining the two winners of the 2019 Jostens Trophy honors.
