NORTH BOSTON, N.Y. – A pair of Penn State Altoona women's basketball players landed on the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference's All-Conference team, which was released on Tuesday afternoon.
Sophomore guard/forward Alexis Cannistraci (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) was voted first team All-AMCC, while junior guard Finnley Christine (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) took second team All-Conference honors.
Cannistraci had a breakout season in her sophomore campaign with the Lady Lions. In the AMCC, she ranked first in defensive rebounds (177), second in points per game (17.1), third in field goals made (152), free throws made (97), total rebounds (241), rebounds per game (9.6), and points (427), fifth in free throw percentage (80.8%), sixth in points per 40 minutes (19.3), seventh in blocks (29), 12th in offensive rebounds (64), and 17th in field goal percentage (40.0%) and steals (42).
Cannistraci recorded a team-high 12 double-doubles during the season, ranking 51st in double-doubles among all NCAA Division III players. She was also 59th in Division III in defensive rebounds per game (7.0). Cannistraci was a two-time AMCC Player of the Week selection this season. This is her first appearance on an AMCC All-Conference team.
Christine lived up to her billing as the 2018-19 AMCC co-Preseason Player of the Year, turning in an outstanding junior season for the Lady Lions. In the AMCC, Christine ranked fifth in points per game (15.0) and three-point percentage (33.3%), seventh in points (376), eighth in field goals made (137), 10th in three-pointers made (38), free throw percentage (71.9%), and assists (79), 11th in points per 40 minutes (18.1), 12th in free throws made (64), 13th in field goal percentage (41.4%), and 19th in steals (41).
Christine is closing in on 1,000 career points, scoring 960 career points to date to rank sixth in Lady Lions history. She was named the AMCC Player of the Week one time during the season. This is Christine's second appearance on an AMCC All-Conference squad, as she also took second team recognition as a sophomore last year.
Penn State Altoona women's basketball posted a 12-13 overall record this season, including going 10-8 in the AMCC to rank fourth in the league's regular season standings. The Lady Lions suffered a defeat to Penn State Behrend in the first round of the AMCC Tournament.
The team's season is not yet over, however, as Penn State Altoona was granted a berth into the Eastern College Athletic Conference's Division III Championship Tournament. The Lady Lions will travel to face Washington & Jefferson College at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 27 in a first round game.
