NEWPORT, R.I. -- Madalyn Sanborn and Abby Cavallaro combined for a dozen points in the final seven minutes as the University of New England out-scored Salve Regina University by 10 to rally for a 55-50 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's basketball win on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 2) at the Rodgers Recreation Center.

For a second straight outing, the Nor'easters (11-11, 9-4 CCC) needed to finish strong to secure the victory. UNE faced its largest deficit at 43-38 before Sanborn hit a three-pointer and then two free throws to tie it, and an Ashley Coneys layup had the visitors in front.

The Seahawks (9-13, 5-8 CCC) answered with a triple from Kerri Beland, but Cavallaro countered right back with a trey of her own to put UNE ahead for good (48-46) with 3:49 remaining. The margin was still just one when Sanborn put in another bucket (51-48) at the 0:30 mark. The Nor'easters drained all four freebies on their last two trips to seal things.

Jocelyn Chaput notched a team-high 13 points with seven rebounds and four steals for UNE, while Sanborn and Cavallaro both registered 11 points and combined for 13 caroms. Sadie Nelson added eight points and Coneys totaled seven more, to go with four blocks, prior to fouling out.

The Nor'easters pressured SRU into 25 turnovers in the contest, which netted 20 points heading in the other direction. That category helped UNE overcome a 14-for-26 performance at the charity stripe.

Beland paced the hosts with 16 points, which included eight in the 3rd frame as Salve Regina gained the edge on the scoreboard (40-36). Mary Rorke tossed in 11 points, and Torie Scorpio went for nine points with a game-high nine rebounds, as the Seahawks posted a 48-32 advantage on the glass.

The visitors jumped out to a 15-8 cushion in the 1st quarter, but things were even at 16-all through 10 minutes. UNE held a 28-26 lead at halftime.
