Nor'easters breeze by Bison, 76-46

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England led from start-to-finish in a 76-46 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's basketball victory over Nichols College on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 9) at the Harold Alfond Forum.

Winners of four in-a-row, the Nor'easters (13-11, 11-4 CCC) move into second place in the league standings entering their regular-season finale at Wentworth Institute of Technology (1-13 CCC) on Wednesday.

While shooting 46 percent (26-for-56) from the field, UNE held the Bison to just 31 percent accuracy (18-of-58) and converted 22 Nichols turnovers into 26 points heading the other direction. The hosts led by a dozen after the 1st (23-11), nearly double at the half (41-22), and 61-39 through three periods.

Abby Cavallaro registered a game-high 19 points for the Nor'easters, which included 5-of-8 makes from downtown. Sadie Nelson knocked down 7-of-10 from the floor on the way to 17 points and six rebounds. Jocelyn Chaput tallied 16 points and Ashley Coneys chipped in with 10 more.

For the Bison (4-19, 2-12 CCC), Mekaela Fithian-Giantonio totaled 12 points and five assists. Isabella Nerney added nine points and Ciarri Formby-Lavertu grabbed a match-best eight rebounds.
