ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's basketball team fell to a tough St. John Fisher College team on Tuesday evening by a score of 65-46. With the loss, the Saxons dropped to 2-8 in the Empire 8 and 6-13 overall.

AU played the Cardinals tough on the defensive end in the first quarter, giving up just 11 points.

The Saxons struggled on the offensive end throughout the first half while St. John Fisher began to hit some shots during the second quarter. By the end of the half, the Cardinals led the Saxons 27-14.

Coming out of halftime, Fisher quickly extended its lead up to 17. Minutes later, Lyndsey McCoy (Middleburgh, NY/Middleburgh Central) hit back to back three-pointers to help the Alfred offense get moving and cut the Cardinal lead to just 11.

With five minutes remaining in the third quarter, the St. John Fisher offense began to get hot once again. Multiple layups in the paint put the Cardinals up by 18. By the end of the third quarter the Saxons trailed Fisher 53-33.

AU outscored St. John Fisher in the final period, 13-12, but the early deficit made it too much to overcome as the Cardinals walked away with their eighth conference victory of the season.

"I thought that in the first half, we were a little bit passive," Head Coach Mike Moskowitz said. "I think our confidence wasn't necessarily there, but we took good shots, had a lot of defensive stops and forced 15 turnovers in the half-court, and we just didn't convert in transition on some easy looks. In the second half, our aggression was really good and I think, moving into the weekend, we have to defensive rebound a lot better."

McCoy led the Saxon scorers with 19 points while forcing three steals on the defensive end. Allison O'Toole (Simi Valley, CA/Simi Valley) scored eight points. Amanda Figueroa (Cypress, TX/Rosehill Christian) led AU with six steals while Katlyn Boland (New York, NY/ A. Phillip Randolph) forced four steals.

The Saxons will host Stevens Institute of Technology on Friday at 5:30PM.
