CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's basketball picked up a commanding 65-43 victory over Northern Vermont University – Lyndon to secure the season sweep, on Friday night in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action inside of Smith Gymnasium.
How it Happened: The Mariners held a 18-14 lead after the first quarter and outscored the Hornets 23-13 in the second quarter to take a 41-27 lead into halftime.
Lyndon struggled offensively in the second half, and the Mariners continued to pull away and secured the 65-43 win.
Inside the Numbers: Alayne Felix (Mahopac, N.Y.) led the Mariners with a game-high 21 points, five assists, four rebounds and a steal.
Melinda Ogden (Searsport, Maine) tallied 12 points, five rebounds, an assist and a block, Morgan Boudreau (Benton, Maine) contributed 11 points, five rebounds, an assist and a steal and Megan McLean (Eliot, Maine) rounded out the Mariners in double-figures with 10 points, two rebounds and two assists.
Lea Crompton led the Hornets with 15 points, four rebounds, and a block.
The Mariners shot 46.7 percent from the floor, while the Hornets shot 28.6 percent on the night. Maine Maritime also won the battle of the boards with 40 rebounds compared to Lyndon's 27.
Up Next: The Mariners improve to 13-6 on the season and 7-2 in the conference, while the Hornets fall to 11-9 overall and 6-4 in the NAC. Maine Maritime will return to action tomorrow, February 2 when they host NVU-Johnson at 3:00 pm.
