SALEM, Ore. – Maegen Martin scored a game-high 19 points, Makana Stone added a double double with 10 points and 14 rebounds to go along with a game-high seven assists and the Whitman College women's basketball team maintained a share of first place with an 82-59 win at Willamette on Friday night in Northwest Conference action at Cone Field House.

The win steered Whitman (14-4, 8-1 NWC) back to its winning ways after suffering a home loss to Puget Sound this past Saturday. The Blues scored 13 points off nine Bearcat turnovers and won the rebound battle by a wide margin at 42-29 leading to 20 second chance points.

Mady Burdett had a stellar game as well. Climbing the ladder as one of the most prolific three-point shooter in Blues history, she hit 3-4 from beyond the arc to the tune of 14 points. Taylor Chambers added 12 points and handed out six assists.

Amanda Carpenter led three Willamette scorers in double figures with 18 points. Elizabeth Logsdon added 13 points and shared team high honors with Britanny Kochenderfer grabbing seven rebounds.
The Blues used big runs at the end of the first and second quarters to carry a sizeable lead into halftime. Carpenter's jumper made it a 13-12 ball game with 3:38 remaining in the opening period, but a made jumper followed by a three pointer from Chambers ignited a 10-3 run to finish the first quarter.

Whitman began to pull away midway through the second quarter when Kaylie McCracken pulled up from three on a fastbreak, connecting to push to lead to double digits at 32-20. With the lead at nine points with 4:05 remaining, the Blues unleashed a 13-0 half-ending run and took a 47-25 lead into the locker room. Kaelan Shamseldin nailed a pair of three pointers in the spurt.

The Bearcats looked to make a game of it when they outscored the Blues by eight in the third quarter. Whitman led by as many as 27 points before Willamette began to chip away. The Blues would go scoreless the final 3:51 of the period while the Bearcats ran off nine straight points to bring the deficit to 14 by quarter's end. Willamette would shave the lead to as few as 12 points in the final quarter but Whitman's near 30-point advantage was too much to overcome as the Blues ran away with the win.

Whitman returns to the hardwood on Saturday for a 4:00 p.m. tipoff at Pacific.
