ROCHSTER, N.Y. - Coming off of their first conference win this year, the University of Rochester women's basketball team faced off against New York University on Friday night at the Louis Alexander Palestra.  Following a big second half, the Yellowjackets would pull out a 51-48 victory after a strong second half performance.

The Yellowjackets got off to a really slow start, allowing the Violets to open up the game with a 6-0 run. After Camryn Fagan made a free throw to put Rochester on the board, the Yellowjackets slowly started to put points on the board. However, UR was still trailing at the end of the first quarter 12-10.

After trading baskets for the first few minutes of the second quarter, NYU started to find a rhythm. The Violets would go on a 9-4 run over the last 6:15 of the first half. The Yellowjackets once again found themselves trailing at the end of the second quarter with a halftime score of 27-19.

Needing to get something going, Rochester came out and turned the game around. With 2:10 left in the third quarter, Lena Ethington made a layup that gave Rochester their first lead of the game, putting the Yellowjackets up 32-31. However, the lead would not last long as NYU's Katie Foos would answer with a layup of her own to give the lead back to the Violets. Rochester would fight back over the remaining of the quarter to end the frame with the score tied at 36.

After battling for the first nine minutes of the fourth quarter, Julianna Okoniewski nailed a jumper with 53 seconds remaining, and Rochester would never look back. After making a few free throw attempts, the Yellowjackets secured their second conference victory of the season, making them 8-9 overall and 2-4 in conference play.

As a team, the Yellowjackets were much more effective in the second half in terms of shooting. Compared to shooting only 25% in the first half, Rochester would shoot 40% from the floor in the second half.

Rochester also dominated the glass, grabbing 51 rebounds, including 21 offensive boards, to NYU's 42 rebounds. This is the second time in as many games that the Yellowjackets had 50 or more rebounds. With the 21 offensive rebounds, UR was able to dominate second chance points 20-8.
