BANGOR, Maine -- A solid 40-minute effort by the Husson University women's basketball team Friday night enabled the Eagles to remain undefeated in North Atlantic Conference play (6-0) and help longtime head coach Kissy Walker pick up her 500th career win with a 64-55 triumph over SUNY Canton at Newman Gymnasium. Coach Walker is only the second coach to achieve this milestone in Husson athletics' history in a single sport.

Husson improves to 10-6 overall. SUNY Canton falls to 5-10 and 3-4 in the NAC, respectively.

1st Half:

A back-and-forth first quarter saw the Roos take an 11-7 lead, but the combination of the shooting by senior Kenzie Worcester and freshman Vanessa Duarte paired with sophomore Megan Peach's post play, enabled the Eagles to build a 37-29 halftime lead.

Back-to-back perimeter buckets by Duarte and classmate Sydney Allen gave Husson its first lead of the evening, and Peach would establish herself down low, collecting several easy second-chance baskets. The 6-footer collected five offensive boards over the first 20 minutes.

Worcester helped Husson stretch its lead to eight at the intermission with a deep 3-pointer to beat the halftime buzzer.

2nd Half:

A Worcester perimeter shot and a fadeaway jumper from Joan Overman helped Husson stretch their advantage to 13 early in the second half, but the Roos were able to close back within single digits with less than five minutes left in the third quarter.

Worcester shut the door late in the third, with yet another buzzer beater 3-pointer to give the Eagles a 53-37 blanket heading into the final ten minutes.

The Roos refused to quit, as a 12-3 SUNY Canton run trimmed Husson's lead down to seven with just over six minutes remaining in regulation.

Worcester responded yet again, drilling a 3-pointer and two foul shots to restore the Eagles' double-digit advantage, and SUNY Canton wouldn't get any closer than nine the rest of the way.

HUSSON LEADERS:

Worcester finished her 100th career game with a game-high 31 points for her second-most in a game this season, while shooting 5-for-11 from 3-point range and grabbing 12 rebounds. Peach also posted a double-double with 11 points and her second consecutive game leading all players with 15 boards. Duarte helped out with eight points off the bench.

SUNY CANTON LEADERS:

Jenifer Morgan-Aubin led three Roos in double figures with 16 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double while shooting an accurate 10-10 from the charity stripe. Anastasia Chambers had 12 points and four assists while Breanna Cullers added on ten points.
