WORCESTER – Senior Gracie Restituyo (Barrington, RI) delivered a dozen points and rebounds, and junior Alex Goslin (South Windsor, CT) shared game-high honors with 13 points as visiting Springfield defeated WPI 60-43 to remain unbeaten in NEWMAC women's basketball action Wednesday night in Harrington Auditorium.
The Pride ends the night 11-5 overall and 7-0 against league opponents while the Engineers move to 7-8 and 2-6
Goslin also handed out a game-best four assists. Junior Emily Jacques (Auburn, ME) narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and nine boards to go with three steals. Senior Chelsea McAllister (Baltimore, VT) added seven points and junior Taylor Hall (Tolland, CT) totaled eight rebounds.
Freshman Bailey Savage (Charlton, MA) guided WPI with 13 points and three assists. Senior Alyssa Paul (Schaghticoke, NY) was next in the scoring column with 10. Freshmen Victoria Mirecki (Rock Tavern, NY) and Alex Scariati (Scotch Plains, NJ) each hauled in a quartet of caroms.
Savage gave the Engineers their only lead of the night with an early 3-pointer. Springfield responded with a 14-0 run which was halted by a triple by Paul. Hall began the outburst while McAllister polished it off with a jumper and a triple. After junior Lauren Rudolph (Franklin, MA) put the Pride in front by 12 early in the second, Mirecki answered to key a 6-0 run to get within four midway through the quarter.
Goslin gave the Pride a double-digit advantage for good with 3:30 left in the third. The guests lead reached a game-high 21 with 3:18 to play.
WPI heads to Wellesley Saturday for a 1pm tip while Springfield hosts Babson at 10am.
