Walters Leads Guilford Women Past Randolph-Macon in Showdown of ODAC Leaders

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Miracle Walters scored a game-best 24 points as Guilford College defeated visiting Randolph-Macon College, 60-53, in a meeting of Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) leaders Saturday afternoon. Walters shot nine-of-14 from the field and added 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season.

Guilford won its fourth straight outing and improved to 11-4 and 8-1 in the ODAC. Randolph-Macon fell to 12-4 and 7-2 in league play. 

Calyn Davis and Brianna Allen both contributed 10 points for the Quakers. Lindsay Gauldin tied her season high with a game-best 14 rebounds and teammate Julie Carini added 10 boards for Guilford, which led in rebounding, 43-28.

The Quakers trailed 25-23 at halftime but outscored the Yellow Jackets, 19-8, in the third quarter en route to their ninth victory in 10 games. The home team scored the final nine points of the period and led 42-33 heading to the final stanza. Allen had a field goal and a three-pointer in the 9-0 run.

Guilford led by as many as 15 points in the fourth quarter. Randolph-Macon cut the deficit to 56-51 with 27 seconds remaining but got no closer. Walters and Davis both were two-of-two on free throws in the closing seconds.

The Quakers shot 43 percent (22-51) from the floor, compared to Randolph-Macon's 37 percent (21-57). The Yellow Jackets committed 12 turnovers and forced 20 miscues. 

Charlotte Woods paced the visitors with 16 points and eight rebounds. Michal Ross and Becca Arrington added 12 and 10 points, respectively for Randolph-Macon.

The Quakers visit the University of Lynchburg Wednesday (1/16). The ODAC contest tips off at 7 p.m.
