MENOMONIE (January 9, 2019) - Amber Fabeck stepped outside and scored a career-high 24 points to lead UW-Stout to a 78-68 win over UW-Whitewater, Wednesday, on Dewey Mintz Court in Johnson Fieldhouse.

Fabeck, a Blue Devils 6-3 post player, drained three consecutive 3-point attempts in the first half to help Stout to a 39-35 halftime lead with 15 first half points. Fabeck hit another trey in the second half, knocking down 4 of 6 attempts from beyond the arc and 9 of 20 from the floor.

The Blue Devils (12-2, 2-1 WIAC) trailed only briefly, and that came midway through the first quarter and that was by only one point. Stout held a 22-13 first quarter lead behind eight points by Fabeck.

The Warhawks (8-6, 1-2 WIAC) got as close as two points several times in the second quarter, and outscored the Blue Devils 22-17 in the stanza. Fabeck, Bailey Diersen and Kyncaide Diedrich each scored five third quarter points and Liz Oswald dropped in four points in the period. The Warhawks pulled to within 54-50 on a 3-pointer by Emily Schumacher late in the period, but the Blue Devils stretched the lead to eight points with two buckets by Oswald, and baskets by Diersen and Diedrich.

Whitewater got only as close as seven points a couple of times in the fourth period.

Diersen finished the night with 19 points and Diedrich 14 points. Diedrich also pulled down nine rebounds. Stout shot 38.1 percent (24-63)  from the floor for the game, 40 percent (6-15) from 3-point range and 75 percent (24-32) from the free throw line. Diedrich scored 10 of her points from the line and Diersen recorded seven from the charity stripe. Diersen recorded seven steals as Stout forced 20 Warhawk turnovers. Stout turned the ball over nine times. Fabeck finished with two blocked shots. 

The Warhawks had four players score in double figures, led by Emily Schumacher's 17 points. Camri Conley and Becky Raeder each added 12 points and Olivia Freckmann collected a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. The Warhawks outrebounded Stout, 50-36. Johanna Taylor came off the bench to pull down 13 rebounds and seven blocked shots.The Warhawks had 10 total blocked shots. 

Whitewater shot 36.8 percent (25-68) from the floor, 31.3 percent (5-16) from the 3-point line and 65 percent (13-20) from the line.

Stout will travel to UW-Platteville, Saturday, Jan. 12 for a 3 p.m. contest. Stout returns home Wednesday, Jan. 16 to host UW-River Falls.
