(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The second-ranked Thomas More University women's basketball team opened up 2019 where it left off in 2018 as it defeated NAIA-member University of Pikeville, 70-37, tonight (Wednesday, January 2, 2019) in a future Mid-South Conference matchup at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. The Saints improve to 19-0 and the Bears fall to 11-5.
FIRST HALF:
- Thomas More led 18-9 after one quarter and then used a 20-7 second half to extend the lead to 38-16 at halftime.
- The Saints had a 16-8 advantage in the paint and a 12-2 advantage in points off turnovers.
- Thomas More shot 52 percent from the field (13-fo-25) from the field in the opening half.
- Senior guard Madison Temple (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) led all scorers in the first half with 13 points and dished out four assists.
- Sophomore guard Briana McNutt (Maysville, Ky./Mason County) led the team on the boards with six rebounds.
- Junior guard Kaela Saner (Florence, Ky./Boone County) tallied eight points.
SECOND HALF:
- Thomas More extended the lead to 56-25 after three quarters and cruised to the 70-37 victory.
- The Saints had an 8-5 advantage off turnovers and 8-6 in second chance points.
- 12 Saints scored at least one point in the half.
- Saner and Temple led the way scoring in the half with five points each.
NOTABLES:
- Thomas More had a 30-2 advantage in the paint and 20-7 off turnovers.
- Temple finished the game with 18 points and five assists.
- Saner was named the Jimmy John's Player of the Game as she tallied 13 points, six rebounds and two steals.
- Junior forward Emily Schultz (Melbourne, Ky./Bishop Brossart) had nine points and five rebounds.
- Senior forward Shelby Rupp (Milan, Ind./Batesville) finished with nine points and six rebounds.

- The Saints return to the hardwood tomorrow (Thursday, January 3) when they host another future Mid-South Conference foe when they play NAIA 17th-ranked Lindsey Wilson College at 7 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
