Offensive clunker, Tommies take first loss

St. Thomas Women's Basketball had its lowest offensive output in 10 seasons and fell on the road at No. 24-ranked Wartburg 60-40 Sunday in the championship of the Wartburg tournament. Emma Gerdes had 27 points and eight boards for the winners.

The Tommies (10-1) came in ranked second nationally in field-goal shooting at 51.5 percent. But they converted just 30 percent from the field against the Knights (10-2). They had three winning streaks halted: 10 seasons victories, 26 consecutive regular-season wins; and 33 road victories in a row.

Hannah Spaulding had 11 points and seven rebounds for the Tommies.

St. Thomas resumes conference play Wednesday at Gustavus.
