OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University women's basketball team suffered a Skyline Conference loss to the College at Old Westbury, 91-39, at the Clark Athletic Center on Friday morning. The Panthers advance to 9-1 this season and 3-1 in the conference, while the Maccabees drop to 5-7 overall and 3-6 in Skyline play.

History was made as senior forward Michal Alge eclipsed the 1,000-point milestone. She becomes just the second player in program history to accomplish this feat. The Boston native is the first player in team history to record 1,000 career points and 1,000 rebounds. Alge produced her 1,000th point by nailing a free throw with 4:23 remaining in the third quarter.

"I'm really excited, and I am really excited for the women's department," Alge said. "I am happy that we were able to get up there. I think that this (milestone) and along with our season this year so far is only the beginning for the women's basketball program. I am excited for how much further we are going to go. "

The Maccabees fell behind, 7-4, early in the game, but a pair of free throws by senior guard Nicole Bick and a successful jump shot by sophomore forward Lindsay Brandwein propelled Yeshiva to an 8-7 lead, with 6:34 remaining in the first quarter. Old Westbury went on a run and took a 15-11 advantage. Yeshiva countered with five unanswered points to finish the period. Sophomore guard Adina Rosenberg began YU's surge with a successful jump shot, and then with 37 seconds left, Bick received the ball from Rosenberg and launched a 3-point field goal to put YU in front, 16-15. That would be the score after 10 minutes of play.

The Panthers took control of the game in the second quarter, scoring the first six points of the period to jump out in front, 21-16. Bick temporarily halted Old Westbury's surge with a 3-point basket to cut the home team's lead to two, with 8:31 remaining in the half. The Panthers then generated a bigger rally, scoring 18 of the game's next 19 points, in a span of 4:15, to take a commanding 39-20 lead with 3:41 left in the period. Old Westbury went into the intermission up by a score of 44-23.

Old Westbury outscored Yeshiva, 47-16, in the second half to clinch the Skyline victory.

The highlight for Yeshiva during the final 20 minutes came in the third stanza. Alge was four points away from the 1,000-point milestone. With 8:47 remaining in the quarter, the Boston native drew a foul and was sent to the line. She converted both her free throw attempts for her 997th and 998th career points. Alge was fouled again, just over four minutes later. She made the first free throw for point number 999. On her second free throw attempt, she shot the ball into the net for her 1,000th career point and became the sole member of the program's 1,000-1,000 club.

"I am so proud of Michal," Yeshiva University head coach Michael Alon said. "What she has done for this program has been incredible. To produce 1,000 career points and 1,000 rebounds is an amazing accomplishment."

For the game, Alge had eight rebounds, three assists, and just as many steals. Bick produced a team-high 19 points with two rebounds and just as many assists. Sophomore forward Celia Cohen scored six points, grabbed eight rebounds, and blocked a shot. Rosenberg had a solid game with five points, six rebounds, two dimes, and a pair of steals. Brandwein produced four points, brought down just as many caroms, and forced three steals. Sophomore guard Chana Boltax hit a free throw and grabbed a rebound, while freshman forward Elizabeth Pavel had two rebounds and a steal. First-year guard Tova Mamann and sophomore guard Leah Shulman each had a rebound and a steal, while junior forward Ellie Parker brought down three boards. First-year guard Rachel Kahen collected a steal.

"I just want to thank all of my coaches from high school and college," Alge said.

For Old Westbury, senior forward Monique Joseph and classmate Charlotte Renker each produced a double-double. The former just missed a triple-double with 24 points, 15 rebounds, and eight assists, while forcing five steals. The latter tallied 20 points, clutched 15 caroms, blocked four shots, and forced three steals.

The Maccabees will battle the Beavers of City College, at Nat Holman Gymnasium, on Sunday. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
