CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. -- The Elmira College women's basketball used a high-flying first half to cruise to a 65-21 victory over the Defenders of Clarks Summit on Tuesday evening. With the victory, EC improved to 2-4 on the season.

The Soaring Eagles jumped all over the Defenders from the opening tip-off, scoring the first eight points of the contest. The Purple and Gold never looked back from there, as they held their lead for the remainder of the contest. Defensively, EC was stellar as the Soaring Eagles held Clarks Summit to a paltry five points through the opening half of play. Elmira forced Clarks Summit into 12 turnovers in the opening 20 minutes, generating 11 points off of miscues by the Defenders.

Clarks Summit found some success on offense in the third quarter, as the Defenders tallied 11 points in the quarter. Despite the improved offense from Clarks Summit, the Soaring Eagles didn't waver as they added 14 points in the  quarter to take a  48-16 lead into the final quarter of action. EC rediscovered its stifling defense in the fourth quarter, holding Clarks Summit to five points as the Soaring Eagles cruised to the 44-point victory.

Lindsey Heaton '19 paced EC's attack with a game-high 18 points while shooting 87.5-percent from the floor. Alyssa Waters '22 posted 11 points and a season-high seven rebounds. Elmira dominated on the glass, pulling down 42 boards compared to 19 by the Defenders. The Soaring Eagles shot a season-best 50-percent form the floor while they held Clarks Summit to an 18.2-percent mark on the defensive end of the court.
