Morrison's Double-Double Leads William Smith Past Rochester

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Mia Morrison scored 22 points and collected 16 rebounds to lead William Smith College (1-1) to a 68-48 women's basketball victory over the University of Rochester (0-4) at the Louis Alexander Palestra on Tuesday evening.

Juliana Gamboa scored 14 points in 24 minutes off the bench for the Herons and Stavriana Dimitrakopoulou scored 10 points. Amy Dooley grabbed seven rebounds for WSC and Gamboa had six. WSC held a 57-35 lead on the glass.

Lauren Foley scored 16 points for Rochester. She hit 4 of 10 outside the arc in 19 minutes off the bench. Julianna Okoniewski added 13 points and seven rebounds. No other Rochester player scored more than five points.

The Yellowjackets tied a 30-year-old single-game record by blocking 13 shots. Shannon Loiseau blocked seven shots. Jamie Boeheim,, Lena Ethington, and Camryn Fagan had two blocks apiece. Rochester has blocked 35 shots in four games this season.. The Yellowjackets blocked 13 shots against Clarkson University on March 6, 1988. Tonight's effort matches that. Loiseau tied the single game record of seven for one player. It has been done six times in school history, first by Pat Dowell against Genesee Community College on February 27, 1978.

William Smith closed the first quarter with a 7-2 run to forge ahead, 17-13. Morrison scored seven points in the second quarter, leading WSC to a 31-19 lead at the half. With Rochester down 37-21 early in the third quarter, Foley started to find her range. She scored eight points in a 10-2 run that pulled UR within 39-31 with 6:29 left in the period. Emma Gallagher made a conventional three-point play and Olivia Hughes drove for a layup to restore a 13-point edge.
