Boston, Mass. — The Keuka College Women's Basketball team lost on Saturday to UMass-Boston 78-69 in the Emerson College Tournament.

Keuka College (1-1) was paced by the first career double-double for Jariah Johnson (New York, N.Y. / Frederick Douglas). The senior had 21 points and 12 rebounds in the loss, both career-highs. Lauren Anten (Rochester, N.Y. / Hilton) finished with 14 points for the Wolves and Sam Laranjo (Averill Park, N.Y. / Averill Park) added 13 for Keuka.

UMass-Boston 78 vs. Keuka College 69

The Beacons took a lead over the Wolves in the first minute, but Keuka College responded with nine unanswered over the next four to take a 13-6 lead. Boston responded with a 12-0 run in just over a minute to regain the lead and the Beacons would lead 22-21 after one.

Runs continued as the Wolves scored the first eight points of the second quarter to take a 29-22 lead. Keuka College remained ahead of Boston for nearly the entire quarter. The Beacons made a three with 17 seconds left to take a 36-35 lead, but Sam Laranjo made a layup at the buzzer to give the Wolves a 37-36 halftime advantage.

In what started as a back-and-forth third quarter, the Beacons made their move midway through the frame with eight straight points to build a 55-46 lead over the Wolves. The Green and Gold responded and cut the margin back down. Once again, the Wolves got a basket in the final seconds as Riley Record (Palmyra, N.Y. / Palmyra-Macedon) made a layup with two seconds left, but UMass-Boston would lead Keuka College 59-57 going into the final quarter.

Keuka College had a chance to tie the game a minute into the fourth quarter, but went one of two from the free throw line as the Beacons maintained the lead. They took advantage of it as they scored the next six points to build a 65-58 lead. A pair of threes would push the lead to double-digits and prove to be the dagger as Keuka College was unable to come back and fell to the Beacons 78-69 on Saturday.

KC Notes:

• The series with UMass-Boston is now knotted at 1-1. The two teams previously squared off in a tournament at Hartwick College in the 1995-96 season with Keuka College prevailing 66-39
• This is the second time that the Wolves have played in a tournament at Emerson College. The Green and Gold are still looking for their first win
• Keuka College had more field goals than Boston, 30-23, but the difference was made behind the arc and from the free throw line. The Beacons outscored the Wolves 24-3 from deep and 22-8 from the charity stripe
• Lauren Anten had seven field goals in the game, giving her 390 in her career. She passed Darcie Nichols for eighth on the career list
• It was the 50th career game for guard Sam Laranjo and she scored her 400th career point on Saturday

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves will face Dean College in the consolation game on Sunday at Emerson College. It will be the first time that the Wolves and the Bulldogs have ever faced each other.
