WALLA WALLA, Wash. - Mady Burdett delivered a game-high 20 points including 6-10 in three point attempts, Kaylie McCracken added 13 points and seven rebounds and the Whitman College women's basketball team notched its first win, a 107-33 home-opening defeat versus Walla Walla University on Wednesday night at the Sherwood Athletic Center.

Kaelan Shamseldin was also hot from distance, going 4-7 in three pointers to the tune of 18 points. Makana Stone added 10 points and seven rebounds with Burdett also contributing five rebounds, five assists and six steals.

Itsel Rubio's 10 points was a team-high for Walla Walla (1-5, 0-0 CCC). She also handed out five assists, also a Wolves high.

The Blues (1-1, 0-0 NWC) made no mistake about the result against the undersized Wolves, opening the game with an 18-3 run. Stone was able to get to the basket twice early for scores to highlight a 12-1 spurt to start the game. Burdett then caught fire, hitting from distance on back-to-back possessions as Whitman carried a 25-7 lead after one quarter.

The Wolves found the stroke early in quarter two when Titi Graham and Holly Wagner each hit three pointers, but Whitman responded quickly. Consecutive three pointers from Brittaney Van Buren followed by a three ball from Taylor Chambers extended the lead to over 20 points.

The second half saw the Whitman lead swell to 50 points as Coach Ferenz emptied her bench midway through the third quarter.

Next up for the Blues is a trip to Spokane for the Whit Classic. Whitman will play the University of Texas-Tyler on Friday, Nov. 16 and Montana Tech on Saturday.
