Baldwin Wallace University defeated the SVC women's basketball team by a score of 78-60 at the Carey Center in non-conference action.

With the loss, SVC is now 1-1 on the season.

Madison Kollar hit a three pointer to open the game for the Bearcats, but the game's next five points were scored by the Yellow Jackets.

From there, the lead changed hands several times, before the Bearcats eventually took a 6-point lead, 15-9, after another score by Kollar.  However, BW fought back outscoring Saint Vincent by a margin of 11-2 in the final four minutes of the quarter to take a 20-17 lead after 10 minutes of play.

SVC closed the gap to just one early in the second quarter, but the visitors scored five straight to make it a 24-19 game.  Saint Vincent then responded with five consecutive points, as Maria Morgan hit a three, followed by a Paige Montrose steal and fast break, tying the game.

From there, the Yellow Jackets took control, running the lead to seven, 33-26, before Jenna Lafko drove in for a score to cut it to five.  But the visitors finished the half strong, pulling away to a 10-point lead at the break, 40-30.

Montrose paced SVC with 8 points in the opening 20 minutes, while Lily Edwards had 12 off the bench for Baldwin Wallace.

The Yellow Jacket lead hovered close to 10 for much of the third quarter. They eventually opened a 14-point lead (53-39) with 2:37 remaining, but Bri Van Volkenburg drew three fouls in the closing minutes and went 6-for-6 from the foul line.  A Taylor Boring three added to the SVC score, closing the gap to just seven, 55-48, with 14 seconds remaining. However, Edwards battled in the paint and scored in the final seconds of the quarter to make it 57-48 after three periods.

A layup by Erin Giancola to open the fourth quarter brought the deficit back to seven, but it would prove to be the closest Saint Vincent would get.  Van Volkenburg did her part to keep the Bearcats in the game, drawing three more fouls and hitting all of her shots from the line, finishing the night with an 11-for-11 performance at the charity stripe.  She led the team with 13 points on the evening.

Kollar added 11 points, while Montrose finished with 10 points and a team-high 8 rebounds.  Van Volkenburg grabbed 7 rebounds.

For BW (1-0), Edwards tallied 23 points and 12 rebounds, while Riley Schill had 7 assists.

Saint Vincent returns to action on Friday, November 16 facing Lancaster Bible in the opening day of the 2-day Messiah College Tournament.
