The SVC women's basketball team's season came to an end with a 61-54 loss to New York University in the quarterfinals of the ECAC Tournament, held in Washington, PA.

The Bearcats got off to a slow start offensively, with just two points on free throws in the first four minutes, but played solid defense and trailed 6-2 at the 6-minute mark of the first quarter.  Maria Morgan scored on a layup at the 5:40 mark, followed 20 seconds later by a Paige Montrose layup.  SVC then took its first lead of the day, 9-6, after a Mara Benvenuti three with 4:40 on the clock.

With the game tied 12-12, Taylor Boring scored on a layup off an inbound pass.  After a free throw from the Violets, SVC scored six straight points to end the quarter, two each from Bri Van Volkenburg, Boring, and Carlee Kilgus, to take a 20-13 lead after 10 minutes of play.

NYU started the second quarter with five straight points to cut the gap to just two before Boring scored on a driving layup to make it 22-18 in favor of SVC.  However, the Violets then scored five straight points to reclaim the lead, 23-22 at the 5:30 mark.

Over the next four minutes, only one point was added to the board on a free throw by NYU, but SVC retook the lead at the 1:20 mark on a three by Kayla Slovenec.  Morgan added a fastbreak layup in the closing seconds of the half, and the Bearcats took a 27-24 lead into the break.

Once again, the Violets started the quarter strong, with a three to tie the game.  After a Sanmartin layup, NYU scored nine straight points to take a 36-29 lead at the 6:05 mark.

Morgan then ended the run with a three from the corner, and drew a foul in the process, completing the 4-point play to make it a 36-33 game.

Late in the quarter, SVC trailed by six before Kiara Arnold banked in a jumper off the glass, then Boring hit a high-arcing three to make it a one-point game, 41-40, after three quarters.

NYU started the fourth quarter with a score, but Boring quickly hit another three to tie the game at 43-43.

A layup and a pair of free throws near the midway point of the fourth put NYU in front, 49-45, and another score with 4:02 remaining put the Violets in front, 51-45.

A bucket by Benvenuti with 2:20 remaining made the score 53-48, but NYU quickly answered to once again run the lead to seven.  Sanmartin then scored on a Bearcat layup, but with less than 90 seconds to go, the Bearcats were forced to start fouling.

The Bearcat defense then got the team back in the game, forcing a turnover that led to a score by Benvenuti that made the score 56-52.  After a free throw increased the NYU lead to five, Morgan drove inside and scored with 19.6 seconds left to cut the gap to 57-54.  SVC fouled NYU's Mikaela Read with 15.1 remaining and she hit both shots to once again run the lead to five, and the Bearcats were unable to score on their next possession.   Read once again was fouled and went to the line, and hit both shots to seal the win.

Read led all scorers in the game with 19 points.  For the Bearcats, Morgan and Boring scored 12 each, while Benvenuti had 8 points, 5 rebounds and three steals.  Montrose had 7 rebounds while Sanmartin grabbed 5.  Montrose and Kilgus each had three steals.
