BRYN MAWR, Pa. – The Gettysburg College women's basketball team wrapped up the top seed for the upcoming Centennial Conference Championship with a 78-31 victory at Bryn Mawr College Saturday afternoon.
Saturday's victory vaulted Gettysburg (21-2, 17-1 CC) two games in front of idle Muhlenberg College (20-3, 15-3 CC) in the conference standings. The Bullets swept both meetings with the Mules this season, giving them the advantage in any tiebreaker scenarios. It will be the second time Gettysburg has hosted the CC Championship and first since capturing the crown inside Bream Gym in 2013.
The Bullets had no issues taking care of business on Saturday, shooting over 50 percent as a team for the fourth time this season and tying a season high with 14 steals. Eleven players reached the scoring column with junior Emma Dorshimer (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown) leading the way with 15 points in 19 minutes. Dorshimer finished 6-of-7 from the floor and hit all three of her attempts from beyond the arc.
Senior Emily Gibbons (Annapolis, Md./Severn School) finished 7-of-10 for 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Sophomore Kiera Cesareo (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) added 11 points and seven rebounds in her first start of the season.
Halena Martin led the Owls with 10 points.
After missing its first shot, Gettysburg canned each of its next four to take an 8-0 lead. The margin grew to double-figures less than four minutes into the game on a three-pointer by Dorshimer which made it 13-2.
Bryn Mawr cut the deficit down to nine at the start of the second quarter, but the Bullets dialed in with the next 11 points to surge in front by 20 (32-12) midway through the frame. Gettysburg took a 37-17 lead into the half.
The margin did not dip below 20 the rest of the game and hit 30 (55-25) on a lay-up by freshman Meredith Brown(Landisburg, Pa./West Perry) to end the third quarter. The reserves took over in the fourth and out-scored Bryn Mawr 23-6.
Gettysburg finished 34-of-67 (50.7 percent) from the floor and out-rebounded Bryn Mawr 44-28. The Owls shot 13-of-49 (26.5 percent) overall.
Gettysburg makes its final regular-season home appearance against McDaniel College (12-11, 10-8 CC) on Wednesday, Feb. 14, at 8 p.m. Gibbons and fellow senior Kendra Meredith (Boyds, Md./Northwest) will be honored prior to the start of the game.
