CORTLAND, N.Y. - Four players scored in double figures as the Cortland women's basketball team defeated visiting Fredonia, 75-48. The Red Dragons improved to 14-8 overall and remain tied for second in the SUNYAC with an 11-4 mark.

Kristy Vitucci (Deer Park) led Cortland with 17 points. She made 7-of-11 field goals, 3-of-6 from 3-point range. Justine Crespo (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) finished with 15 points, 12 rebounds and three assists, while Shana Crespo (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) and Kerry McHugh (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) scored 10 points each. McHugh also totaled five rebounds.

Taylor Miller (Freeport) registered six rebounds, four steals, and a career-high tying six assists. Shannon McGuire (West Babylon) added six points and Alaina Lynch (Staten Island/Staten Island Tech) grabbed a career-high five rebounds.

Jenna Einink led Fredonia (8-15, 6-10 SUNYAC) with 12 points. She also pulled down six rebounds. Justice Nauden and Anna Chiacchia tallied nine points each and Alisha Szumigala led the Blue Devils with 10 rebounds. Chiacchia hit 3-of-4 shots from the 3-point arc and led her squad with three assists.

Cortland led 19-16 after one quarter, but opened the second quarter with a 9-0 run over the first five minutes of the second period to take a 28-16 lead. Vitucci hit two 3-pointers to close that streak. The Red Dragons led 31-19 at halftime despite shooting only 27 percent from the field (but 5-of-11 from 3-point range) as they held Fredonia to 26 percent shooting in the half.

The Red Dragons quickly extended their lead to 38-19 less than two minutes into the third quarter. The lead was as high as 26 points in the third and 19 after three quarters, and at least 18 points in the fourth.

Cortland shot 48 percent from the field in the second half and finished at 38 percent, while Fredonia shot 29 percent after halftime and ended at 28 percent for the game.

Cortland also made 20-of-24 free throws (83 percent), compared to 7-of-11 for the Blue Devils. The Red Dragons also took advantage of 19 Fredonia givewaways and held a 20-2 advantage in points off of turnovers.

Cortland will host Buffalo State Saturday at 1 p.m.
