Allentown, Pa.—Freshman guard Faith Shiffer tied her season-high with 13 points, including the game-winning free throw with eight seconds remaining, to lift Keystone College to a 49-48 victory over Cedar Crest College in Colonial States Athletic Conference women's basketball action Thursday evening at Lees Hall.
Sophomore center Maddy Moro contributed 13 points and pulled down 19 rebounds and freshman guard Bre Moore chipped in 11 points as the Giants improved to 5-17 overall and 4-9 in the CSAC.
Cedar Crest, which fell to 3-18 overall and 2-12 in the CSAC, was led by sophomore guard Geminii Cabrera with 23 points and six rebounds and freshman guard Natasha Barber added 11 points.
The Giants trailed 26-23 at intermission and 38-31 after three periods, but fought back in the final stanza to compete the regular-season sweep of the Falcons. Keystone out-scored the Falcons 18-10 in the fourth quarter.
Moore connected on a pair of free throws with 1:41 remaining to give Keystone a 47-43 lead. Falcon sophomore forward Venus Cabrera followed with a pair of charity tosses, and after Moore made one of two free throws with 29 seconds left, Cedar Crest sophomore guard Sylera Weller buried a 3-pointer with 21 seconds remaining to tie it up at 48.
After Keystone missed on its next possession, Shiffer came up with a steal, was fouled, and then connected on one of two free throws to set the final score. The Falcons turned the ball over after Shiffer's free throw and fouled immediately, but they were unable to get off a shot attempt after the Giants missed two free throws with two seconds left.
Shiffer's previous high of 13 points came against Medgar Evers on November 18, while Moro's 'double-double' was her third straight and seventh of the season.
The Giants will close out a two-game CSAC road trip this Saturday, February 10, against Immaculata University in Immaculata, Pennsylvania, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
