Babson Park, MA --- Sophomore Alana Keating (Leominster, MA) scored a career-high 10 points as part of a 25-6 WPI run to close out Babson, 52-43, in a key NEWMAC Women's Basketball matchup Wednesday night in Staake Gymnasium.

Babson, which entered the night tied for first place, falls to 15-8 overall and 11-3 in league play, while WPI improves to 17-5 overall and 10-3 in the NEWMAC with its third consecutive win this season and second regular season road triumph in as many years versus the Beavers.

Junior Payton Ouimette (Medfield, MA) led all players with 15 points and 15 rebounds, while classmate Elizabeth Lane (Skaneateles, NY) added 10 points for the Babson.

Senior Ama Biney (Worcester, MA) had 13 points on 6-of-11 shooting to go along with seven rebounds for the Engineers. Classmate Stasha Greenalch (Newington, CT) finished with six points, seven rebounds and a game-high seven assists and fellow senior Maura Buckley (Melrose, MA) delivered 10 rebounds.

Ouimette scored seven first-quarter points and the Green and White used an 11-2 spurt that spanned parts of both periods to build a 20-10 lead with 6:23 to go in the second. WPI responded with hoops on three straight possessions to get within four, but the Beavers shot 54.5 percent in the frame and extended their advantage back to 27-21 at the break.

Babson matched its biggest lead of the game at 37-27 on back-to-back layups by freshman Katie Jones (Ridgewood, NJ) with 3:33 to go in the third quarter. The Engineers closed the frame with an 8-0 run that included a buzzer-beating jumper from Greenalch, and then pulled even on a layup by senior Brianna Dozier (Dedham, MA) on the first possession of the fourth.

The Beavers went back in front a pair of free throws by Lane and took their final lead at 41-39 on a bucket by Ouimette with 6:56 remaining. WPI took over from there, getting seven points from Keating as part of an 11-0 spurt that made it 50-41 on a steal and layup by Biney with 54 seconds to go.

WPI remains in the city limits Saturday with a quick trip down Park Ave and Babson heads to Springfield. Both games get underway at 1pm.
