DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Manhattanville College shot 70 percent from the field in the decisive third quarter as the Valiants erased a halftime deficit and downed host Delaware Valley University, 69-59, in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom.


Manhattanville improved to 17-5 overall and 7-4 and half of game ahead of idle DeSales University for the fourth and final playoff berth in the conference. The Aggies dropped to 7-15 and 4-7.


DelVal trailed 12-5 in the opening quarter before going on a 7-2 run to cut its deficit to two at the buzzer. Ashley Smink had five of the seven points in the rally.


Smink continued her strong play as she had eight points in the second quarter, giving her 16 at the intermission. She scored the half's final six points to erase a four-point deficit and give the Aggies a 31-29 lead.


DelVal still had a two-point lead after Danielle Skedzielewski drilled a 3-pointer with 4:37 left in the third quarter. However, the Valiants scored the final eight points of the quarter, with points from four different players, for a 48-42 lead. They hit seven of their shots over the 10-minute period.


The Aggies made a rally and pulled to within three, 52-49, after Skedzielewski hit a jumper with 5:53 remaining. Manhattanville countered with a 9-3 spurt, en route to the 10-point win.


The Valiants, who shot 54.5 percent from the field in the fourth, finished 25-for-50 on the night. Sarah Coutu led the way with 17 points, seven rebounds and six assists while Nancy Cavallero added 14 points.


Smink led DelVal with a game-high 24 points. Skedzielewski had 14 points while Morgan Mitchell added 10 points and four steals.


DelVal will travel to five-time defending MAC Freedom champion FDU-Florham on Saturday, February 10 (1 p.m.).
