(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The No. 4-ranked Thomas More College women's basketball team extended is winning streak to 19 games as it defeated Geneva College, 108-43, today (Saturday, February 3, 2018) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win, the Saints improve to 20-1 overall and 14-0 in the PAC. With the loss, the Golden Tornadoes fall to 6-15 overall and 3-11 in the PAC.
Thomas More scored the first 12 points in the game and never looked back as it led 35-10 after one quarter, 56-20 at halftime and 87-33 after three quarters before cruising to the 108-43 victory. The Saints held a 62-10 advantage in points in the paint, 35-4 off turnovers and Thomas More's bench out-scored Geneva's 53-9.
13 Saints reached the scoring column today and three reached double-figures. Junior guard Madison Temple (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) led all scorers with 20 points. She passed Jaime Boehl (1986-89) and Bridge New (1998-2002) to move into a tie for 11th in all-time scoring at Thomas More with 1,188 career points. Joining Temple in double-figures was senior forward Nikki Kiernan (Cold Spring, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) with 13 points and sophomore forward Emily Schultz (Melbourne, Ky./Bishop Brossart) with 10 points. Junior forward Shelby Rupp (Milan, Ind./Batesville) led the team on the boards with seven rebounds, while Temple led the team in steals with four. Temple, senior guard Abby Owings (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) and junior guard Kelly Clapper (Newark, Ohio/Newark Catholic) led the team in assists with four each.
Thomas More returns to hardwood on Wednesday (February 7) when it travels to New Wilmington, Pennsylvania to play Westminster College. The PAC game will tip-off at 6 p.m. inside the Buzz Ridl Gymnasium.
