PROVIDENCE, R.I. --  Senior Raquel Pederzani (Coventry, R.I.) scored 15 points, grabbed seven rebounds, dished out seven assists and recorded three steals to lead Johnson & Wales to a 69-42 Great Northeast Athletic Conference women's basketball victory over Mount Ida Tuesday evening at the Athletic Center.

 

The host Wildcats (12-8, 8-3 GNAC) jumped out to a 19-5 first quarter advantage en route to a 28-13 lead at the break, and after the visiting Mustangs (11-8, 4-6 GNAC) crept back to within 10 (30-20) on a pair of free throws by senior Imani Bumpus (Dedham, Mass.) 2:15 after intermission, Johnson & Wales used a 15-6 run over a six-minute stretch to increase that margin to 19 points (45-26) on a pair of free throws by junior Ally Mishol (Longmeadow, Mass.) with 1:27 to play in the third stanza.  Mount Ida got back to within 15 (51-36) on senior Jaime Moscato's (Taunton, Mass.) lay-in with 6:40 remaining in the contest, but the hosts iced their triumph with a closing 18-6 run to account for the final margin.

 

Senior Kristen Habbel (Phoenixville, Pa.) added 10 points, six rebounds and three steals in the win for Johnson & Wales, which also received 10 points and four boards from freshman Morgan Chapman (York, Maine).  Senior Sarah Duryea (Middle Village, N.Y.) chipped in with nine points, three caroms and three assists for the Wildcats, who received eight points each and a combined 14 rebounds from Mishol and junior Gabrielle Nicastri (East Greenwich, R.I.).  The hosts shot 40 percent (25-62) from the field overall and connected for nine three-pointers on the night, as Johnson & Wales held a 47-29 edge on the boards that included a 15-2 advantage on the offensive glass.

 

Sophomore Valerie Martin (Derry, N.H.) scored 10 points and grabbed three rebounds in the setback for Mount Ida, which received eight points each from Moscato and senior Patricia Liotta (Hampton Bays, N.Y.).  Senior Breanna Muir (Wareham, Mass.) added six points and three boards for the Mustangs, who received five points, five caroms and four steals from Bumpus.  The visitors shot 30 percent (15-50) from the floor overall and connected on just 4-of-20 attempts from the three point arc on the evening.

 

Mount Ida hosts Saint Joseph (Conn.) in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference outing on Thursday evening at the Athletic Center that tips-off at 6:00 p.m., while Johnson & Wales heads into Boston to square off with Emmanuel in a GNAC clash beginning at 7:30 p.m.
